Flexible Applications

Flexible Applications

Standard PVC is made flexible through the addition of plasticisers, which makes rigid PVC more ductile. The addition of TempRite® Engineered Materials resins results in increased softness in the final product and allows for a reduction in the amount of plasticiser used.

Blending TempRite Engineered Materials with flexible PVC can significantly reduce optical smoke density while increasing the LOI of the polymer. Similar or superior flame and smoke performance can therefore be achieved without the use of higher priced and potentially toxic additives such as Antimony Trioxide.

TempRite Engineered Materials resins offer a wide range of benefits when used in flexible applications, including:

  • Higher heat resistance
  • Better printability
  • Improved weldability
  • Lower gas permeability

Applications typically include wire and cable, flooring and flooring substrates, printing films, credit cards and automotive interiors.

Wires

Wire and Cable Jacketing

Wire and cable jacketing is the first line of defence for wire and cable against mechanical, chemical, moisture or flame damage. With the use of a PVC/CPVC blend, a reduction or even elimination of plasticiser may be possible. In addition, CPVC improves fire resistance properties.
Flooring

Flooring and Flooring Substrates

Flooring PVC is a long-established flooring material, and is popular because of its ease of installation, scratch, stain and moisture resistance, and durability. The addition of CPVC helps meet requirements for higher heat resistance or higher flammability properties, or where lower smoke release is necessary. It also improves weldability.
