Lubrizol Foundation

The Lubrizol Foundation

At Lubrizol, the communities where we operate and reside have always been regarded as vital stakeholders in the sustainability of our organization. In 1952, Lubrizol established The Lubrizol Foundation, which is dedicated to providing financial support to nonprofit organizations and charities within our local communities. Through the Foundation, we continuously strive to make a meaningful impact and foster sustainable growth in the areas we call home.

Creating Community Chemistry

Grants from The Lubrizol Foundation play a pivotal role in our commitment to fostering positive relationships within our communities, aligning with our purpose to enhance overall well-being. As part of our ambitious goal to improve at least 2,028,000 lives by 2028, the year Lubrizol celebrates its centennial, we are dedicated to donating a minimum of $20,280,000 by 2028. This funding will be directed towards qualified organizations that resonate with our Corporate Community Investment Priorities, ensuring a meaningful and lasting impact on the communities we serve.

Qualified Organizations

All grant applicants must be:
  • a currently qualified, tax-exempt, nonprofit organization under 501(C)(3) and listed as such in the current published list of the Internal Revenue Service;
  • willing and able to fulfill the Foundation’s Reporting Requirements;
  • located in and primarily serving the community where a Lubrizol facility is located, and in the United States;
  • current with their compliance statement answers in NPOConnect.

Our investment pillars are strategically aligned with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs):

    • UN SDG 14 – Life under Water
    • UN SDG 15 – Life on Land

Online Application

To be considered for a Lubrizol Foundation grant, organizations must submit their applications online through The Lubrizol Foundation Grant Application hosted in the YourCause GrantsConnect Applicant Portal. First-time applicants are required to create an account or log in using their Blackbaud ID.

We strongly encourage applicants to review and update (or create) their NPOConnect account. This account allows organizations to manage their nonprofit profile, ensure compliance, select their preferred payment method, and access payment and transaction details (if eligible).

Grant Guidelines

    • sponsoring athletic-type events (walks, runs, golf outings),

  • Please note that grant recipients are required to wait three years before submitting another grant application. This policy ensures that The Lubrizol Foundation can continue to extend its support to various organizations within our local communities.
  • The Foundation does not support:
    • Individuals
    • Political organizations
    • Religious organizations
    • Fundraising dinners, galas, parties or sports-related events (golf outings, runs or walks)

Grant Review Cycles

Grant submissions will be reviewed in three rounds. Submissions:

  • January 1 - March 15, will be reviewed early April
  • March 16 - June 30, will be reviewed mid-July
  • July 1 - October 15, will be reviewed early November

Applications submitted after October 15th will be considered in the first cycle of the next calendar year.

Reporting Requirements

A key component of the Foundation’s grant program is understanding the effectiveness of the initiatives its grants help to fund. We are committed to making change and having a positive impact in our communities. For this reason, the Foundation requests all grantees to submit an Impact Report.  The Foundation workflow will prompt grantees to submit an impact report beginning one week after the program end date.

A Post Grant Impact Report will be completed online and will ask recipients to update information on impact measures submitted during the application process. It also includes the following:

  • Director’s Comment Upload: a short, candid statement by the Executive Director of the organization of the strategic impact of the grant and qualitative results of the project completed. Information on lessons learned, including unexpected outcomes or insights, is helpful as well
  • Actual Program Budget: a comparison of the actual project costs vs. the original budget

Should project completion not be achieved on the stated program end date, please complete the Impact Report after actual completion. Recipients will continue to receive reminders to complete their impact report on a regular basis. Failure to provide a Post Grant Impact Report within one year of the initial program end date will negatively impact any future funding.
