The Calvert City facility was built in 1957 as part of a larger chemical complex owned by BFGoodrich (BFG). The facility operated as BFG Chemical until 2001, at which time Noveon bought BFG’s Carbopol® polymers business (which is the Calvert City facility). In 2004, Noveon was purchased by The Lubrizol Corporation.
Calvert City is one of two Lubrizol plants that produce Carbopol. Carbopol is a product used by a wide range of customers to thicken, preserve and suspend their products.
