New Levels of Protection in 1K, Water-Borne, Direct-to-Metal Coatings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Lubrizol Performance Coatings announces the commercial availability of Aptalon™ M8120 Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD), enabling coating formulators to deliver powerful performance in one-component, water-borne coating systems for direct-to-metal (DTM) applications.

Aptalon M8120 uses patented Aptalon™ Polyamide Polyurethane chemistry to deliver a self-crosslinking, water-based resin technology as an outstanding alternative to many solvent-based coating technologies:

• 5B Adhesion  –  while typical polyurethane dispersions often require a primer for optimal adhesion, Aptalon M8120 delivers outstanding adhesion performance as part of a single coat DTM application
• Hardness and Abrasion Resistance  – far exceeding other water-borne DTM coating systems, Aptalon M8120 provides excellent durability and protection that lasts
• Corrosion Performance  –  the advanced Aptalon M8120 PUD provides very good endurance in salt spray testing conditions
• Chemical Resistance  –  Aptalon M8120 is designed to deliver excellent resistance to a broad range of chemicals common in industrial and other harsh environments.
• Low VOC  –  Aptalon M8120 provides these performance capabilities for water-based coatings as low as 230 g/L VOC (US Method) / 100 g/L VOC (EU Method), significantly lower than many similar-performing solvent-based coating technologies
