Vascular Market

Polymers for Vascular Applications

Vascular therapies represent an alternative to traditional invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of disease such as coronary artery disease. These procedures improve patient comfort by reducing pain and risk as well as yielding quicker recovery at lower cost.

Medical grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) polymers from Lubrizol are well suited for use in endovascular medical devices (used in the treatment of cardiovascular, peripheral vascular and neurovascular diseases) because of their long history of proven biocompatibility and indwelling softening characteristics. Lubrizol TPUs have been used in vascular applications for more than 30 years.

Lubrizol TPUs enable performance of vascular access devices such as:
  • Central venous catheters (CVC)
  • Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVC)
  • Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC)
  • Dialysis catheters

Polymers included in the Tecoflex™, Carbothane™, Pellethane®, and Tecothane™ TPU lines are ideal for vascular applications. In addition, most products can be easily customized for radiopacity, color and other characteristics which can enhance catheter performance.
