Medical Device Contract Manufacturing Extrusion Capabilities

Standard and Custom Heat Shrink Tubing

Optimal Clinical Outcome for Every Application

Lubrizol Life Science Health’s precision polyolefin heat shrink tubing capabilities yield efficient solutions for a broad range of medical devices. Our high shrink ratios ensure a high compression force at low recovery temperatures (275 - 350°F / 135–176°C). Excellent concentricity and a flexible thin-wall construction facilitate ease of use, excellent fit and compliance.

Heat shrink tubing applications range from being an assembly aid for butt bonding, lap bonding and bonding of balloons to being used as part of the product itself such as a strain reliefs and protective sheeting.

Process Controls to Meet All Your Needs

LLS Health offers a range of standard heat shrink tubing sizes to help you meet tight deadlines — plus the ability to produce custom sizes to achieve more precise fits. We draw upon our engineering expertise to optimize and control the extrusion, crosslinking and expansion process, providing consistent quality lot-to-lot.

Because heat shrink tubing recovers to a smaller diameter after heating, we implement proper process controls to ensure that every product meets your requirements for minimum expanded inner diameter, maximum recovered inner diameter, recovered wall thickness and length. Plus, we offer a full range of polyolefin materials, including LDPE, MDPE and LLDPE (low-, medium- and linear low-density polyethylene) options to meet your specific design and process needs.

Unique Manufacturing Capability

LLS Health’s experienced staff utilizes high concentricity extrusion, precise radiation dosages and strict expansion process to manufacture the most challenging heat shrink tubing. Our expertise includes:
  • Standard and custom sizes
  • Expanded ID 0.010"–0.30" (0.25 mm–7.62 mm)
  • Expanded wall thicknesses as thin as 0.0003" (0.00762 mm)
  • Length: 0.5"–60" (1.2 cm–152.4 cm), continuous length for some sizes
  • Shrink ratios as high as 15:1
  • Rapid and low recovery temperatures of 275 - 350°F / 135–176°C, depending on material
  • Colors: clear and customer-specified
