Metalworking Additives

Emulsifiers

Lubrizol Metalworking EmulsifiersLubrizol supplies a wide range of emulsifier additives for the production of water-extendable metalworking fluids. These additives function as primary or secondary emulsifiers in soluble oil and semi-synthetic metalworking fluid formulations for metal removal and forming operations. Proper selection and application will provide stable macro- or micro-emulsions of materials that are inherently insoluble in water, such as petroleum oils, esters, vegetable oils, and synthetic base stocks. In addition to their emulsifying properties, these additives can also contribute supplemental corrosion inhibition and lubricity to the finished metalworking fluid.

Succinic Derivatives

Succinic emulsifier additives can function as primary or secondary emulsifiers in a variety of fluid types. The chemistry of these products promotes strong dispersing qualities that contribute to clean operation of metalworking fluid emulsions. The branched chain structures and absence of sulfur compounds make these emulsifiers less susceptible to biological growth problems than traditional emulsifier chemistries.

Sulfonate-based Emulsifiers

Sulfonate-based emulsifiers include natural sodium sulfonates, synthetic sodium sulfonates, and synergistic combination products that include the performance benefits of succinic derivatives with the traditional properties of sodium sulfonates.

Alkanolamides

Alkanolamides are the reaction products of fatty acids and alkanolamines. These additives function as secondary emulsifiers, and contribute supplemental corrosion protection and lubricity enhancement to water-extendable metalworking fluids.
