Corrosion Inhibitors

Lubrizol Metalworking Additives Corrosion Inhibitors in actionLubrizol’s metalworking corrosion inhibitors provide temporary protection for various metals during metalworking, metal cleaning, and other water-based industrial fluid applications. Proper application of these additives ensures effective corrosion protection of metal parts during operations and in short term storage following operations. Product selection and use concentration depends on required performance parameters and compatibility with other fluid components.

Carboxylic Acids

Carboxylic acid corrosion inhibitors are supplied in a free acid, powder form. When neutralized with water-soluble alkaline sources (alkanolamines and/or hydroxides), the resulting salts are soluble in aqueous systems, and inhibit the corrosion of ferrous metals. Alkanolamine salts are generally more effective corrosion inhibitors than hydroxide salts.

Amine Carboxylates

Amine carboxylate corrosion inhibitors are liquid additive packages that provide protection against ferrous rust and corrosion. These products are typically applied in alkaline systems, and their performance is generally enhanced in the presence of additional reserve alkalinity.

Amine Borates

Amine borate corrosion inhibitors are liquid additive packages that provide protection against ferrous rust and corrosion. These products are typically applied in alkaline systems, and their performance is generally enhanced in the presence of additional reserve alkalinity.

Non-ferrous Inhibitors

Non-ferrous corrosion inhibitors are specifically designed to prevent stain and corrosion of aluminum and/or copper alloys. Products are available for oil-based and aqueous systems.
